How insurance works on Floks

Floks is a marketplace. We connect Guests with independent CFIs and aircraft Operators — we are not an insurer and we don't provide or arrange insurance for anyone.

For Guests

Operators are required, as a condition of listing, to self-certify that they carry hull insurance (where applicable), third-party liability insurance, and, where they're not the sole intended pilot, cover that extends to renting or student pilots. Floks does not independently verify this — it's a requirement of listing, not a guarantee we've checked. If you want to confirm coverage before you fly, ask the Operator directly for evidence of current insurance. That's a normal and reasonable thing to ask, and most Operators expect the question.

Your own financial exposure in the event of damage is typically limited to an excess amount set by the Operator, shown on the listing — but only if you're operating within your ratings, the aircraft's limitations, and safe weather minimums. Flying outside those bounds can make you personally responsible for costs beyond the excess, which is standard across self-fly hire generally, not specific to Floks.

Many pilots choose to hold their own renter's or non-owned aircraft insurance for extra protection, including cover for the excess itself. This is optional and isn't provided by Floks.

For CFIs, owners, and operators

To list on Floks you must self-certify that you hold:

Floks does not verify this insurance today — it's your responsibility to hold adequate cover and to be able to produce evidence of it if a Guest asks. If you're unsure whether your current policy covers peer-to-peer rental or instruction through a platform like Floks, many standard policies exclude this by default — check with your aviation insurance broker before listing.
